Pastoral Care

DPSG-DEHRADUN believes in providing effective pastoral care which requires a close, supportive community committed to nurturing and developing the social and personal competencies of all within it. Pastoral care is woven into everyday life at DPSG DEHRADUN and each pupil’s emotional wellbeing is nurtured alongside their academic achievements.

DPSG-DEHRADUN actively promotes strong links and constructive partnership with parents. Our staff work closely with parents and we encourage open and clear lines of communication between home and school. Teachers and pupils enjoy a positive relationship based on respect and understanding. From their very first day every pupil is part of a caring and supportive school community. We also understand that students learn significantly more in a happy, well-balanced environment. Our happy and supportive environment enriches the learning process and provides the students with a well-rounded education that builds confidence and self-discipline.

Teachers are mindful of nurturing the full range of competencies in their teaching – academic, physical, social and personal – and developments in all these areas are regularly assessed and reported to parents.

Our particular approaches to the provision of pastoral care vary depending upon the age of students. In the Primary Years, the individual classroom teacher assumes great importance in knowing and understanding each child in his or her care. In the Senior School, the House Head/ Form Tutor assumes responsibility for the on-going welfare of students within their House/Form Group

Personal Development classes and programmes, career counselling, eminent guest speakers are all integral to the development of these skills and values, as are the relationships with teachers. Throughout, the emphasis is on positive relationships between school, students, staff and families which are vital for the wellbeing of our young people. Working together is of the utmost importance.

Importantly, a significant number of initiatives will be developed through the Student Representative Council and a Prefectorial System.
